Narcotic Treatment Program

The overall goal is to aid our clients in achieving their ultimate goal of altering their lifestyle and becoming a productive, law abiding citizen, and eventually eliminating their dependency upon illicit narcotics, as rapidly and as safely as possible.

This is accomplished in three successive phases during the course of methadone maintenance treatment,

First: The patient gives up all use of all illicit narcotics.

Second: The patient becomes stabilized on the methadone program and begins to gradually detoxify from the methadone. This is accomplished under close supervision of the methadone staff. A factor that greatly influences the patient's successful use of the methadone program relates to responsibility to provide the most comprehensive care possible and vocational rehabilitation and referrals to job training.

Third: The last phase of treatment is actual final withdrawal for methadone when this is deemed to be useful and beneficial to the patient's capacity to establish a drug free lifestyle.

The "Treatment Progressive Evaluation" is made in the initial treatment plan and then documentation is made on a 90-day review basis to observe all the elements of treatment and the progress therein. The patient's progress is charted in his /her file and contains information on UA's, drug usage, and attendance, psychological functioning and lifestyle changes.

The goals and objectives are as follows:

  • To eliminate illicit drug usage
  • To improve the methadone patient's psychological functioning

  • To eliminate all criminal activity

  • To utilize psychotherapeutic treatment involvement as a vehicle for continuing self-improvement.

  • Improve patient's self-esteem and encourage intelligent decision making

  • Encourage the patient's capacity for impulse control in avoiding self-destructive behavior
